The Common Sense Guide to a Healthy Diet

I’ve come across way to much contradictory information about how humans are supposed to eat. So, I’ve decided to take on a common sense guide to what I eat and make subtle changes based on how I feel. So, I present to you my common sense guide here.

Disclaimer: These principles are not necessarily based in science but I think they make a lot of sense.

Eat more of what’s easy to digest and less of what’s difficult to digest.

I don’t actually know what is easiest to digest but from the couple articles and forums I’ve read, it seems that it depends on the person. Figure out what your stomach likes to digest and eat more of that. Here’s a link to help you start that process.

Diversify what you consume.

If you eat the same thing every day, your body will soon crave something different. Also, by eating different foods, you get a more diverse set of nutrients. So, eat foods of different colors and different food groups.

Understand the basics of macro nutrients.

Carbs can make you fat more so than fats can make you fat. Essentially, over eating on carbs turns the excess into fat. It also keeps the body in a state that burns carbs rather than fat. Basically, cut your carbs if you want to lose fat.

You probably don’t need as much protein as meat companies want you to believe. You can also get your protein from foods such as Ezekiel Bread and other non-meat sources to lower your footprint. However, if you’re going to eat meat, chicken is probably the healthiest as it’s considered relatively easy to digest.

Good fats are superior to bad fats by a significant margin. OK, I don’t know if that’s true but good fats are really really good for you. Try eating more avocados and eating less fried foods. Plus, avocados add a lot of color to the dish compared to fries.

The basics of working out and losing weight.

Losing weight is really challenging because we’re lazy habitual creatures. Decide it’s not okay to eat more calories than you burn and you will soon start to lose weight. Jog 5 times a week for 30 minutes and portion out your meals.

Commitment, consistency, and hard work are necessary for reaching goals.
